First World War Centenary

We will remember them

Along with thousands of churches across the nation, St Peter's commemorated the end of hostilities of World War 1, the 'war to end all wars'.

On Friday 9 November, baritone Rodney Clarke and composer-pianist Louis Mander performed music by Vaughan Williams, Butterworth and Gurney and a new song cycle by Louis Mander - Four Songs of Experience.

On Saturday the church was open and offered refreshments.

On 11th November, the bell was rung 100 times and the names of the fallen read out followed by the two minute silence and a commemorative service. In the afternoon a time of reflection was encouraged through readings of war poetry and prose.
